Caprica: how it began, and praise from the boss

While Luciana did not attend this year’s mother of all conventions, San Diego Comic Con, she graced the event with her presence last time.

And as you may or may not know, she met Battlestar Galactica/Caprica executive producer David Eick at an Entertainment Weekly/Syfy party at this convention – which led to Luciana being cast as PR expert Priyah Magnus in Caprica. She told Eick she would love to work with the team again, and David Eick said they would love to work with her again, too. Shortly thereafter, her agent called Luciana to tell her that she got a part in Caprica. There was no audition involved; she was just in the right place at the right time.

Below you can see a few pictures of Luciana at the EW/Syfy red carpet event where she met David Eick during SDCC 2009 (pictures by Cassie):

Well, who wouldn’t offer a job to such a stunning woman?

But it wasn’t just about the looks, of course. And David Eick is still happy with his decision to cast Luciana in Caprica. Eick had very nice things to say about her when he participated in a discussion about the series at this year’s San Diego Comic Con – almost exactly one year after the aforementioned party. Here is a quote from an article on The Flickcast:

When asked about the easter eggs that were brought up earlier in the conversation, Eick revealed that they did not intend to put them into future episodes, but that sometimes they are inevitable. For instance, fans might have noticed Luciana Carro (who played Kat on Battlestar), but her presence wasn’t the wink that fans might have anticipated.

“She’s a phenomenal actress and there’s only so many actresses who can do and understand what we require them to do, so the pool can be rather small,” Eick explained. “But, we loved working with her again”

Very flattering! And you certainly won’t hear me disagree with him. ;-)

Unfortunately, Luciana won’t be in the second half of the first season, which will premiere in January 2011. Perhaps they will find a place for a good PR woman in season two, which will hopefully be announced soon. Keep your fingers crossed!
