Dragon*Con: Battlestar panels, part 1

Dragon*Con is over, but our coverage has just begun! (See this post for the first Luciana pictures from the Atlanta conventi0n.)

Now, did you know that Luciana sat on a Battlestar Galactica panel on each of Dragon*Con’s four days? Amazing! And unprecedented, of course. I so wish I could have been there and listened to her speak (*dreamy*), and I wish there would have been a Caprica panel, too. With James Marsters and Luciana! Oh my…

Anyway, this post is about the first two of the four BSG panels featuring Luciana (actually, there were even more BSG panels, but without Luciana). Thanks to the always reliable ScriptPhD’s fantastic, extensive write-up on those panels (which also includes a few small photos of Luciana), whe know about pretty much all of her answers and comments:

Friday’s panel

The participants in Friday’s panel were Luciana, Kevin Grazier, Michael Hogan, Alessandro Juliani, Kandyse McClure, Michael Trucco and Kate Vernon. Here’s what Luciana said:

[…]

The next question was for all panelists and centered on what they felt was the biggest reveal of the show. Luciana Carro said that for her, in the episode The Passage learning that Kat had been a drug runner and that her later conversation with Starbuck in which she was told, “You could have been transporting Cylons,” that everything Kat had been through suddenly made sense to her.

[…]

Luciana Carro’s answer to the question of the gender reversal in Scar that stemmed from two women competing to be Top Gun while the men stood to the side was a succinct: “Whatever, man; it’s like that in real life.”

[…]

A discussion about the use of the guns on the series followed. […] Luciana Carro got to fire live rounds, and said that they had real military come on set to show them how to use the weapons accurately.

[…]

When asked what was next for them, the answers were: […] Luciana Carro will also be in a Syfy channel movie, which she said was “not very good, but what do you do—you need the money.” She’ll also be in Caprica as a character unrelated to Kat in any way.

[…]

First of all: Yay! Honestly, I’m surprised and relieved that Luciana got to answer four questions. I love the “whatever, it’s like that in real life!” comment. The other answers were nice, too. Oh, and the “Syfy movie that she will be in” is most likely Phantom Racer, which, of course, aired last month. And while it was indeed a bad movie, we did like the look, the uniform and Luciana’s cool performance! Anyway, it’s not impossible Luciana was cast in another of those movies in the meantime but has yet to announce it officially.

Saturday’s panel

Saturday’s Battlestar panel consisted of Luciana, Kevin Grazier, Michael Hogan, Alessandro Juliani, Mary McDonnell, Michael Trucco, Kate Vernon, and – as a surprise guest – Aaron Douglas. Script PhD’s recap contains the following comments by Luciana:

[…]

Luciana Carro [whose character died midway through season 3] was asked what part of the last season she would’ve liked to have been a part of. Her answer was “the finale.”

The cast was then asked to recite their favorite lines:

Luciana Carro: “Starbuck, my cup runneth dry.”

[…]

The [next] questioner wanted to know whether the panelists had any pets. Luciana Carro has two cats, two dogs, and a Siamese fighting fish.

[…]

For the final question, the cast was asked what they do to get focused. Luciana Carro replied that a friend of hers was a musician and made her a collection of mantras that she used to listen to in the trailer. She added that for the finale, she listened to Gnarls Barkley, and then asked, “you know the song . . . Maybe I’m craaaaazy . . ..” Appropriate enough, Luciana.

[…]

Oh yeah, it would have been a beautiful and very touching moment to see Kat arrive at Real Earth and walk through African grass. And the last answer is very interesting. We knew Luciana was friends with Surya, but I had no idea her music was so important to Luciana, and so instrumental in her preparing for some the intense scenes on Battlestar. Quite a bit of insight, I think. You should really check out Surya’s profile – she’s created some great songs!

Last but not least, many thanks to Script PhD for such a comprehensive recap! I strongly recommend to read the entire post for it contains so many other funny and thoughtful answers by all the other panelists.

Next up: More pictures! Videos! And reports from the remaining two panels!

Thank you so much for the compliments, and we’re thrilled you enjoyed the coverage – the wrap-up should be posted some-time tonight and includes coverage of the third panel (including a bit more detail on her character in Caprica (and I agree a panel on Caprica with James Marsters and Luciano would’ve been amazing!)

On a personal note, I admit to being thrilled down to the bottom of my little feminist heart with her “whatever, man!” answer and found her to be a very, very warm, genuine, and approachable person on the walk of fame as well.

    Thanks again!

PoliSciPoli, thank you for all the work you put in your coverage of the panels. I’m looking forward to the details about her role in Caprica. And having met her myself some time ago I can fully agree that she indeed is a warm and approachable person.
