Luciana to attend convention in Spain

Excellent news for our Spanish friends: Luciana will attend Infinity Conventions’ “Dradis Contact” event in Sevilla, Spain. The convention takes place February 24-26, 2012. This will be Luciana’s seventh convention appearance in Europe and her first in Spain.


Kandyse McClure (Anastasia “Dee” Dualla on Battlestar Galactica) has also been announced for the event. Luciana and Kandyse have appeared at several conventions together, including once before in Europe when they both attended FedCon in Germany in 2010. They are a lovely team, so this convention should be heaps of fun.

Ticket prices range from 79 euros for a basic weekend pass to 299 euros for a limited “infinity pass” that includes a meet and greet as well as access to photo sessions and autographs. So far, Luciana and Kandyse are the only guests that have been announced for the con; it is not known how many there will be in total.

December anniversaries

On the first of each month, we look back at TV premieres, appearances at conventions, and other key dates in Luciana’s public life that occurred this month one or more years ago.

In December, Luciana’s final two BSG episodes and a lovely Christmas movie aired, and she also gave a very interesting and comprehensive interview:

  • December 1 and 8, 2006: Luciana’s final two episodes of Battlestar Galactica premiere on Syfy. On December 1, “Unfinished Business” airs, and on December 8 we bid farewell to Kat in “The Passage”. (Battlestar Galactica section at the fansite)
  • December, 2006: Galactica.TV conducts a long interview with Luciana, shortly after “The Passage” had aired. The interview was published in early January 2007.
  • December 15, 2007: Christmas-themed movie of the week Snowglobe airs on ABC Family. Luciana plays the pregnant and slightly sassy sister of the main character (played by Christina Milian). (Discussion and picture threads on the fanboard)
  • December 4-6, 2009: Luciana attends Steel City Con in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. (Steel City Con entries on this blog)

First pictures from Deck the Halls

While we eagerly wait for the new season of Falling Skies, which will premiere next summer, we should not forget that another project of Luciana’s is just around the corner – Christmas-themed movie of the week, Deck the Halls. Starring Luciana as driver Rosita, and based on a mystery novel by Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark, Deck the Halls will air on December 20.

Just in time for the beginning of the holiday season, TNT has released the first pictures from Deck the Halls – and Luciana is in three of them. Luciana sports very curly hair, wearing a red sweater in the first pic, and wearing a suit in the last two stills, where she is obviously being held hostage along with Santa Claus. ;-)

Now look at these stills, then go back to my last post with the photo from Falling Skies. Could the difference be any bigger? A businesswoman in a suit here, a fierce resistance fighter there – and Luciana makes both of them look great! That’s what I love most about her job, it’s always amazing to see her portray characters who are so different.

Speaking of photos: Dennys Ilic has published another one of his wonderful shots of Luciana, just a few weeks after the Science Fiction Women calendar – which features a photo of Luciana from the same shoot – became available.

Meet Crazy Lee

That was fast. Only a few weeks after she started filming Falling Skies, the first image of Luciana as Crazy Lee has appeared.

If I was one of the invading aliens, I’d be very, very scared right now. From the looks of it, the name Crazy Lee seems to be a very fitting one. If this doesn’t make you want to watch Falling Skies, then I don’t know what will. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing her kick some alien butt.

The photo was released by Luciana herself, she currently uses it as her profile picture on Twitter. Yes, in case you haven’t heard already, Luciana was pressured into joining Twitter by her Falling Skies cast mates. So now she started tweeting about her work on the series, stating that she has finished filming the fourth episode. Let’s hope she continues to share interesting details about her work.

BIG NEWS: Recurring role on Falling Skies

Wonderful news! Luciana has a recurring role on Steven Spielberg’s science-fiction series Falling Skies!

The series takes place during the aftermath of a worldwide alien invasion and follows a group of human survivors who try to wage a guerrilla war against the aliens, whose motives and goals are unknown. Noah Wyle and Moon Bloodgood play the lead roles.

Five years after she left Battlestar Galactica, Luciana is back working on a science-fiction show again (not counting Caprica), and after fighting the Cylons on BSG, fighting for the survival of humanity against another superior enemy should be no problem for her.

Next to Luciana, her Battlestar Galactica and Caprica co-star Ryan Robbins also has a role in the second season of Falling Skies. And they aren’t the only people from BSG who started working on the series recently, the trend continues behind the camera as well, with writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle joining the crew. Not only did they write excellent Battlestar Galactica episodes (i.e. “Scar”) that focused on military matters in the fleet, which makes them the perfect choice for writing interesting stories about Falling Skies’ resistance movement. They are also the people who created Luciana’s BSG character Kat when they introduced her in 1.04 “Act of Contrition”. So let’s hope they get to write some interesting, challenging and action-oriented scenes for Luciana.

It’s not known how many episodes she will appear in, but she started filming on Monday this week. Hopefully the producers and writers keep her around for as long as possible and give her an interesting storyline.

Falling Skies is filmed in Vancouver and season 2 will premiere in summer 2012.

Luciana attended a number of conventions, two of them in Europe, and several BSG episodes with Kat premiered in November:

  • November 8,2004: This was a very special day – the day that started it all, in a way. It was the first time that Luciana’s most interesting character to date was seen on TV, because her very first BSG episode, “Act of Contrition”, premiered on the British channel Sky One, introducing Kat to the series. (Battlestar Galactica section at the fansite)
  • November 3 and 17, 2006: The episodes “Torn” and “Hero” of Battlestar Galactica air.
  • November 9-11, 2007: Luciana attends the “Wolf: Crossroads” convention. It’s her first con in Germany, and her second one in Europe after the Utopia 8, which had been held just three weeks earlier. Both editors of this blog were there as well and have very fond memories of the event. :-) (Crossroads con at the fansite, with pages for reports, photos and other goodies)
  • November 27-29, 2009: Luciana is a surprise guest for the “Mission Starfury: The Cylon Attack” convention near London, England. Other guests include Luciana’s Battlestar Galactica and Caprica castmates Leah Cairns, Kate Vernon, Jamie Bamber, James Callis and Alessandra Torresani as well as several actors from Firefly.
